Who We Dig For

Excavation Services for Homeowners, Builders & GCs

Excavation is rarely the goal — it's the step that lets the project you actually want happen. Whether you're a homeowner breaking ground or a builder keeping a schedule, here's how we work.

Planning a Home Project? Dig Once, Dig Right

You're excited about the pool, the addition, the new driveway, or finally leveling that lumpy yard — and worried about three things: a surprise change order when somebody hits ledge, a wrecked lawn left behind, and whether this is a real, accountable business. We answer all three up front. We tell you how ledge is priced before the machine shows up, we haul the spoils and put your yard back, and the owner is on the job. No drama, no moonscape, no mid-job ledge ambush.

For Builders & GCs: A Schedule You Can Bank On

Framers don't wait, and a late dig cascades through your whole job. You need a sub who shows up, grades to spec, and hands you paper — not excuses. We finish-grade to ±0.10′ with a laser box blade, keep daily OSHA trench logs, pull the Dig Safe ticket, and deliver as-builts and compaction tests. Foundations, pads, footings, and full lot-prep packages under one PO on a fixed schedule. We dig it once, we dig it right, and you call us back for the next three jobs.

Our Work

Recent Excavation & Site Work Across Southeastern MA

Foundations, footings, slabs, lot prep, and utility trenching from recent residential builds across Southeastern Massachusetts. Because we own the machines and self-perform the dig, the site work stays on one schedule under one accountable crew, from the first cut to the finished grade.

What We Excavate

Excavation Services by Project: Foundation Digs to Finish Grade

Most people don't search for "excavation" — they search for the project they're planning. Find yours below. Every one of these is excavation-native work, run by an owner who's been on the machine across hundreds of Southeastern MA digs.

Home & Yard Projects

The dig is the domino that holds up your whole project. Done right, you barely notice it happened. Done cheap, you pay for it in change orders, a settling driveway, or a yard that drains toward the house. We dig to plan, compact what needs compacting, and hand you back a clean site.

Homeowner projects include:

  • Foundation & Addition Excavation

  • Pool Excavation

  • Driveway Prep & Regrade

  • Grading & Leveling

  • Stump & Land Clearing

  • Small Demolition & Removal

Best For

Best for homeowners adding a pool, addition, deck, or shed pad — plus driveway prep, regrading a lumpy yard, and clearing brush, stumps, or an old structure off the lot.

Legacy Excavation is an excavation contractor that calls Dig Safe before every dig across Plymouth County, MA
Homeowner Protection

We Call Dig Safe Before Every Single Dig to Protect You

Massachusetts law requires calling Dig Safe (811) at least 72 business hours before any excavation — and "excavation" legally includes grading, trenching, backfilling, and demolition, so it covers nearly every job we do. The penalties are real: $1,000 to $10,000 per violation, and up to $200,000 for a struck gas line. Here's the part homeowners miss — that liability lands on whoever digs.

  • We pull the Dig Safe ticket and wait out the legal locate window — every job, no exceptions
  • Public utilities located; private lines — irrigation, propane, pool, septic — hand-dug near strikes
  • $2M liability and $2M aggregate insurance — our diligence and our coverage, not your risk

Hiring a contractor who handles Dig Safe right isn't a formality — it's homeowner protection.

Hit Ledge or Rock? We Come Equipped to Break Through It

Southeastern Massachusetts sits on glacial till — ledge and big rock are common and unpredictable, and they're the number-one cause of the dreaded surprise change order. A cheap excavator hits ledge and either walks off your job or ambushes you with a price. We don't. We carry a hydraulic breaker, we're dewatering-ready for the holes that fill with water, and we tell you up front how ledge is priced if we hit it — no mid-job surprise.

  • Hydraulic rock breaker on hand — we keep digging through ledge instead of stopping the job
  • Dewatering capability for trenches and holes that hit groundwater
  • Finish grading to ±0.10′ with a laser box blade — precision, not guesswork

Ledge pricing is explained before the machine arrives — you'll never get a mid-job ambush from us.

Title 5 Septic Specialists

Septic work in Massachusetts lives or dies by Title 5. We handle the perc test, engineered plans, Board of Health permits, and final as-built — so your system passes inspection the first time.

24-Hour Quote Turnaround

Free estimates without the runaround. Send your plans or request a site walk, and you'll have a clear, line-item price in your hands within a day — so your project never stalls waiting on a number.

$2M Liability & $2M Aggregate

Excavation is heavy, high-stakes work. Full liability coverage, daily OSHA trench logs, and Dig-Safe tickets on every dig mean your property — and everyone on it — is protected from the first scoop.

Dig-to-Restoration, One Crew

No juggling subcontractors. The same crew that digs your project grades it out, restores the lawn with loam and seed, and leaves a clean site — one call, one contract, done right the first time.

Owner On Every Job

You deal directly with the owner, not a salesman. Joe has logged 10+ years of site work across Southeastern MA and still climbs into the cab on most jobs — accountability you can see from the driveway.

Plymouth-Approved Utility Contractor

We're on the Town of Plymouth's approved utility contractor list — the same vetting that qualifies us for municipal work backs every residential job. Your inspector already knows our name.

What to Expect

Our Excavation Process, From First Scoop to Final Seed

An opaque, scary process becomes a known sequence. No mystery, no runaround — here's exactly what happens from your first call to a clean, restored site.

1

We walk the site with you, look at your plans or pool/foundation prints, and check access, grade, and the likelihood of ledge. This is also where we flag anything that affects the job — a wetland buffer the Conservation Commission cares about, a tricky utility, a tight backyard the machine has to thread. You get a straight read on what your project actually involves before any money changes hands.

2

Get your plans in by noon and we'll have a price out the next day — that's the 24-hour quote turnaround. The estimate is itemized so you can see what each part costs, and if ledge is a real possibility, we tell you up front how it's priced if we hit it. No vague "we'll figure out the rock when we get there." Predictable numbers are the whole point.

3

Before any bucket touches dirt, we file the Dig Safe ticket and wait out the legally required 72-business-hour locate window — every job, no shortcuts. Where the work needs a grading, building, or utility permit, or a Conservation Commission order near a wetland, we coordinate that paperwork. For planners booking a spring or summer dig, we line this up over the off-season so you're first in the ground when conditions open.

4

Joe runs the machine — you get the owner's hands on your job, not a crew dropped off by a dispatcher. We strip and stockpile your topsoil to reuse, dig to the planned depth, and handle ledge with the breaker if we hit it. Trenches are cut to OSHA standards with daily logs and photo documentation, and compaction is tested where the work is structural. You're kept in the loop the whole way.

5

We backfill, compact in lifts so nothing settles later, and finish-grade to ±0.10′ with a laser box blade — the precision that gets a pad past survey and keeps a yard draining instead of puddling. Spoils are hauled off the same day, so you're never left with a dirt mountain parked on your lawn. Where builders need them, as-builts and compaction reports are delivered.

6

We don't leave you with a moonscape. Topsoil goes back over the finished grade, loam and seed go down where the lawn was disturbed, and the site is handed off clean — from first scoop to final seed, we handle it all. You get a finished, ready-to-build (or ready-to-enjoy) site and workmanship we're proud to point out on a weekend drive. That's the Legacy promise.
